There are moments in life that don’t just challenge you—they break you.
The kind of circumstances that leave you sitting in silence, wondering how everything unraveled so quickly. The kind that shakes your identity, your relationships, and even your faith.
I’ve lived through moments like that. Moments where the pain didn’t make sense. Where prayers felt unanswered. Where the weight of it all felt unbearable.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
God doesn’t wait for things to get better to show up.
He meets you right there—in the middle of the worst of it.
God Is Present in the Pain
Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Notice it doesn’t say He avoids the brokenhearted.
It says He is close.
When everything falls apart, God draws nearer—not farther.
Even when you don’t feel Him.
Even when your circumstances scream otherwise.
He is right there with you. He always has been. He always will be.
Overcoming Doesn’t Always Look Like Winning
We often think overcoming means:
- The relationship is restored
- The pain disappears
- Life goes back to normal
But sometimes overcoming looks like:
- Choosing faith when you’re hurting
- Letting go when it’s hard
- Trusting God when nothing makes sense
Overcoming is not about controlling the outcome.
It’s about surrendering to the One who already holds it.
God Uses What Tried to Break You
Key Aspects of Surrendering Control
Active Trust: Shifting from self-reliance to relying on God [Proverbs 3:5-6], which requires faith in the unseen and patience for His timing.
Total Release: It is not a partial, "half-pass" arrangement; true surrender involves giving God full access to all areas of life, including finances, relationships, and future plans.
Daily Practice: Surrender is an ongoing decision that requires revisiting whenever anxiety or the urge to manage outcomes returns.
Combating Resistance: Overcoming the human desire for control, fear of the unknown, or doubts caused by pain and disappointment.
One of the hardest truths is this:
God doesn’t waste pain.
In Romans 8:28, we’re reminded:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him…”
Not some things.
Not easy things.
All things.
Even the heartbreak.
Even the loss.
Even the seasons that nearly took you out.
What tried to destroy you can become the very place God rebuilds you.
You’re Still Here—And That Matters
If you’re reading this today, you’ve already made it through things you once thought you wouldn’t survive.
That’s not luck.
That’s God sustaining you.
God's promise to sustain you means He provides strength, comfort, and support to hold you up during difficult times and daily life, ensuring you are not overwhelmed. Rooted in scripture like Psalm 55:22 and Hebrews 1:3, this sustaining grace offers physical, mental, and spiritual strength to keep you moving forward.
You may not be where you want to be.
But you are not where you used to be either.
And that means something.
A Quiet Strength Moving Forward
Moving forward doesn’t require you to have all the answers.
It simply requires:
A willing heart
A surrendered spirit
And the decision to trust God one day at a time
You don’t have to carry everything at once.
God will give you strength for today.
And then He’ll meet you again tomorrow.
